This course examines the world's major religions.
This course is designed for students to develop a global perspective through the exploration of Geography and History combined. Students will concentrate on Europe, Asia and Africa while being guided by current events, the five fundamental themes of Geography and mapping.
The life science science program is an introductory biology course with a focus on cells, microorganisms, plants, animals, and the human body.
The eighth grade science program is an introductory course intended to prepare students for a future study in chemistry and physics.
Advanced Placement European History covers European History from the 1400s to the present.
 Advanced Spanish 3 is designed for highly motivated students who are committed to becoming proficient in Spanish. This course is also recommended (not required) for those students who plan to continue their study of Spanish at the Advanced Placement level. Since the course is conducted in Spanish, communication skills will be refined throughout the year as students are exposed to many opportunities to converse in Spanish. All major grammar topics are reviewed and at the same time students will be introduced to more challenging and detailed grammar topics that they may have not seen before. Students will read from a variety of authentic sources during the year and will also practice listening comprehension that also comes from a variety of authentic sources. Throughout the year students will learn to write thoughtful, well-organized essays which will increase in length as the year progresses. Speaking grades will consist of work done during lab activities, as well as oral presentations and class participation.
This course is a interdisicplinary approach to learning about the Harlem Rennaissance. Primarily focused on literature, such as novels like Hurston's Their Eyes Were Wacthing God, and Larsen's Passing,
A second course in Algebra, offered over the summer.
This course emphasizes the comprehension, analysis, and interpretation of literature written by major American writers. Literary works are considered chronologically within the context of American literary history. Writing instruction focuses mainly on expository and critical compositions of literary analysis.
AP Spanish Language prepares students "to demonstrate their level of Spanish proficiency across three communicative modes (Interpersonal [intereactive communication], Interpretive [receptive communication], and Presentational [productive communication])...The course is meant to be comparable to fifth and sixth semester college and university courses that focus on speaking and writing in the target language at an advanced level" (The College Board,2006).
AP United States Government and Politics is a year-long course for motivated students who are interested in studying American government, law, and politics. The course will also help prepare students for the AP American Government Exam.
This course revisits the most significant events in our nation’s history. The course also prepares students for the AP US History Exam.
Biology at Tampa Prep is typically taken by 9th grade students though because of scheduling or transferring from another school there are usually several students from the upper grades. In Biology we study life: what makes something alive, what processes are needed to keep something alive and how does it all relate to ourselves.
Focusing on environmental issues, this curriculum developed by the American Chemical Society emphasizes how chemistyr is related to every-day life. Students develop a chemical vocabulary and an understanding of chemical concepts while participating in laboratory exercises, individual and group projects, and decision-making activities.
Common Ground is student-run community club whose goal is to promote diversity, equity, and justice through dialogue. Our motto is: A comfortable place to discuss uncomfortable issues! We openly discuss issues of diversity (social, economic, cultural, race/ethnic, sexual orientation, religion, etc.) with open minds and hearts. Meetings are generally held every Friday in room 3006 (Mr. James) during lunch. Meetings are open to all students and faculty.

Dare to Dance is a course designed for students with little or no previous dance training. The course includes broad introductions to a few of the most important dance styles in history; Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Modern, breakdance/hip hop and ballroom dance.

This year-long course explores global historical issues from the Renaissance to current events. Primarily taught as a discussion course, the objective of the course is to have students develop a basic understanding of world history from the early modern period and hone the skills necessary to make sense of ongoing world events.
The introductory level course explores all facets of tehatre arts, culminating in the creation of a production booklet for a one act play. Areas covered include theatre terminology, organizational structure of a professional theatre, and the production process. Theatre history is also explored through the use of period scripts and adaptation of styles to class projects.

Marine Biology is offered to students in the 11th and 12th grades who have previously taken either a full year of physics or chemistry. In this course we study a wide range of topics within the realm of the oceans including: history, physical and chemical components, flora and fauna.

Musical Theatre combines a historical study with practical application of skills found in this unique genre. Areas of study include composers, early development of the art form, the business of musical theatre, lyricists, playwrights, and the influence of changes in musical styles and tastes. Students will also read scripts and listen to scores representing works that reflect the influences of the time period, from the classic era of the 1930's and 40's, the turbulent 60's, the near demise of the musical in the 80's, and the corporate influence of the 90's to current day.

 In this yearlong course, you will be presented with an introduction to psychology. The course is designed to explore the systematic and scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. You will be exposed to the psychological facts, principles, and phenomena associated with each of the major sub fields within psychology. You will also learn about the ethics and methods psychologists use in their science and practice. Class will consist of lectures, discussion, readings, videos, guest speakers, writing, and possible group projects. Critical thinking skills are enhanced as you analyze personal and social implications of psychological findings.

Spanish I is a dynamic introduction to the Spanish language. Students will learn to speak, write, listen to, and read Spanish from the very first day. There is a focus on grammar and vocabulary acquisition, as well as on the understanding and appreciation of the rich and varied culture of the Spanish speaking world.

This course is designed to develop a basic level of writing, listening, speaking and reading skills for the student to be able to carry on a simple conversation in Spanish in the present and preterite tenses.
This site will provide ample opportunities for the students to practice any and all grammar concepts necessary to be successful in this course.
After a quick review of the material in Chapters 1-7, we will begin with the grammar and vocabulary from Chapter 8. In Spanish II, students will broaden their vocabulary to include a wide variety of every day topics, and increase their understanding of Spanish grammar in order to be able to express themselves in both writing and speaking. At the end of this class students should feel comfortable carrying on a conversation with a native speaker.

In this one-semester course, students experience the interaction between science, technology and art as they investigate chemical interactions involved in the creation, authentication, restoration, and conservation of works of art. By creating works of art, students practice techniques such as fresco, Egyptian paste, and metal etching. By conducting chemical experiments, students explore fireworks, paints and alloys. Class discussions and lectures connect chemical concepts with the students’ experiences in the lab and art room. After studying about forgery detection techniques and art restoration, students write a research paper to analyze the authenticity of an infamously debated work of art.

The study of ancient world history from the beginnings of time until 1500.
World History I is a freshman level history course at Tampa Prep exploring the roots of the world from prehistoric ages to approximately 1500 C.E. Discussion and essay writing skills are primary apects of this class.
World History 1 explores the origins of our world's humans and traces their traditions and encounters of societies to the 1500s.
This course provides students with a broad exposure to a number of literary genres. In addition to exploring literature, on-going vocabulary and grammar study are also emphasized. During the course of the year, students in English I obtain a solid understanding and working knowledge of literary elements; poetic devices; critical, rational thinking; and clear, intelligent writing.
